Child protection organisation Bravehearts is planning Australia’s largest ever Virtual Balloon Race as part of this year’s White Balloon Day.
The race, which will virtually launch on 4 September from Parliament House in Canberra, will see computer generated balloons race against each other with the winner being the balloon that travels the furthest from the launch point based on an algorithm using real-time weather conditions generated from around 10,000 meteorological stations across the globe to simulate as closely as possible the flight paths of the balloons.
“White Balloon Day is now in its 21st year,” says Mrs Johnston.
“The humble white balloon has become a symbol of hope for survivors and a symbol of protection for today’s children against child sexual assault.”
Participants in the Virtual Balloon Race are able to personalise their balloon by altering the helium content, thickness of rubber and balloon shape in order to maximise their chances of winning.
