White Balloon Day is Australia’s largest annual campaign to raise awareness of the crime of child sexual assault. By hosting a White Balloon Day event, you can play your part in raising awareness and vital funds to protect Aussie kids.

Held during Child Protection Week, this year White Balloon Day will be held on Friday 6th September – but you can hold your event any time in September! Here are our top 5 reasons to host a White Balloon Day event this year:

1. Funds raised help to educate children about personal safety.
Funds raised during the White Balloon Day campaign supports Bravehearts’ education program ‘Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show’, which has educated more than 720,000 children about personal safety. Cybersafety initiative ‘CyberEcho’, which has been developed in partnership with Google Australia and the Australian Federal Police, is aligned with the Australian National Curriculum and is the leading education program in Australia for teaching students and teachers how to stay safe online. Bravehearts also has a program for teens called ProjectYou!, which is a specialised workshop where young people learn about respectful relationships, consent, bullying, self-care, cybersafety, and other issues that face adolescents. Funds raised during White Balloon Day help to support these vital programs.

2. Bravehearts relies on donations to help protect Aussie kids from harm.
Bravehearts receives only a small portion of the funds it needs to educate, empower and protect Aussie kids from government funding. This means we rely heavily on donations and the fundraising activities of our supporters. In addition to our education initiatives, Bravehearts provides child protection training programs for business and community groups as well as counselling and case management services for those affected by the crime of child sexual assault.

3. Everyone who Pledges to Protect receives a FREE supporter kit!
When you Make The Pledge, you can opt to receive our FREE supporter pack. Each pack contains posters, a donation box, stickers and more. If you are holding a bigger event, you can purchase some extra decorations from our online store.

4. Holding an event brings people together.
Hosting your own White Balloon Day event is the perfect excuse to bring together family, friends and work colleagues. Not only will you be making a difference together, but it is also really important to remove the stigma around conversations relating to child protection. Your event is a great chance to share details of Bravehearts many educational resources.

5. Child Sexual Assault affects 60,000 Aussie kids each year.
A shocking statistic that equates to 1 in 5 Aussie kids suffering some form of sexual assault before their 18th birthday. Holding an event raises awareness within your local community and encourages survivors of child sexual assault everyone to break the silence that has traditionally surrounded this horrendous crime.
