White Balloon Day is Australia’s largest annual campaign to raise awareness of the crime of child sexual assault. By hosting a White Balloon Day event, you can play your part in raising awareness and vital funds to protect Aussie kids.
Held during Child Protection week, this year White Balloon Day will be held on September 8 – and registrations are now open for those keen to do their bit to protect Aussie kids.
Here are our top 5 reasons to host a White Balloon Day event this year:
1. Child Sexual Assault affects 60,000 Aussie kids each year.
A shocking statistic that equates to 1 in 5 Aussie kids suffering some form of sexual assault before their 18th birthday. Holding an event raises awareness within your local community and encourages survivors of child sexual assault everyone to break the silence that has traditionally surrounded this horrendous crime.
2. Funds raised educate children.
Funds raised during the White Balloon Day campaign supports Bravehearts’ education program ‘Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show’, which has educated more than 720,000 children about personal safety. Cyber safety initiative ‘CyberEcho’, which has been developed in partnership with Google Australia and the Australian Federal Police, is aligned with the Australian National Curriculum and is the leading education program in Australia for teaching students and teachers how to stay safe online.
3. Bravehearts relies on donations to help Aussie kids.
Bravehearts receives less than 30% of the funds it needs to educate, empower and protect Aussie kids from government funding. This means we rely heavily on donations and the fundraising activities of our supporters. In addition to our education initiatives, Bravehearts provides child protection training programs for business and community groups as well as counselling and case management services for those affected by the crime of child sexual assault.
4. Registered events receive a free supporter kit!
Celebrate in style with a free supporter pack. Each pack contains White Balloon Day bunting, streamers, posters, a donation box and all the things you need to make your event a success!
5. You will be in good company.
Join Bravehearts Ambassadors Lisa Gormley (actress, Home and Away), Larrissa Miller (Olympic Gymnast, Australian Ninja Warrior), James Courtney (V8 Supercars) and a host of celebrities who support this event each year.
